Wedding venue guide
Wedding venues across the Northwest and beyond
50 established country houses, castles, halls, hotels and premium barns, written up from a wedding photographer’s point of view: how the light behaves, how the day tends to flow, and what to check before you book. These are independent guides, not official venue websites.

Cheshire holds more of the Northwest’s established wedding estates than anywhere else in this guide — oak-framed barns, Georgian halls and lakeside country houses, most within an easy drive of Stockport and Manchester Airport.
Cumbria and the Lake District are the furthest venues in this guide and almost always become weekend weddings — lakeshore houses, fell backdrops and light that rewards an early start.
Derbyshire and the Peak District bring dramatic landscape to the wedding day — gritstone edges, wooded valleys and hall gardens that change completely between seasons.
Greater Manchester covers city-centre architecture, converted industrial rooms and parkland halls sitting minutes from the motorway network, which keeps guest travel simple without losing character.
Lancashire runs from red-brick manor houses to hillside estates with long views, and generally offers more space for the money than the Cheshire belt.
Merseyside is dominated by Liverpool’s waterfront and civic architecture, with grand interiors and river light that suit couples wanting an urban celebration.
North Wales adds coast, castle and mountain settings within reach of the Northwest, and works particularly well for couples planning a weekend rather than a single day.
North Yorkshire and the Dales offer stone villages, river valleys and long-established country house venues at the eastern edge of this guide.
Shropshire is quieter and more rural than the counties closer to Manchester, with hall and estate venues set in genuinely open countryside.
Staffordshire sits on the southern edge of the guide, mixing moorland scenery with historic halls and well-run country hotels.
